Greetings, cyberspace friends, as a librarian for the past thirty-one years, I'm committed to helping people find needed information in a timely manner and in the form needed.
My current position is Associate Director of Libraries and Head of Public Services for the Ohio Wesleyan University Libraries. I'm responsible for the management of the Audio Visual Center, two branch libraries, circulation, instructional services, interlibrary loan, online services, reference and special collections. I enjoy teaching the library component of several sections of English 105 and serving as the librarian liaison to the departments of Mathematical Sciences, Philosophy, Psychology, Religion, Sociology/Anthropology and the Neuroscience program.
I serve on the Executive Committee of the Faculty and the Committee on Honorary Degrees. In 2007 I was initiated into Theta Alpha Kappa, the national honor society for religious studies and theology. My 2002 study leave focused on wireless apllications for the library. In 2000 I was initiated into the Ohio Kappa Chapter of Phi Sigma Tau, the Ohio Wesleyan philosophy honor society. In 1999 I received the Robert and Bette Meyer Award. This award, presented at the Baccalaureate Ceremony, recognized my outstanding service to others which exemplifies the mission of Ohio Wesleyan University.
My educational background includes a bachelor's degree with a major in philosophy from Willamette University, Salem, Oregon; a master of divinity degree from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, Evanston, Illinois; and a master's degree in library science from the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
Chess is an important part of my life. I am a postal master (2273). Since 1991, I have played in 45 U.S.C.F. rated events and my over-the-board rating in 1822 and quick chess rating is 1922, both in Class A. I am intrigued by
I co-advise with Tom Wolber, a professor in the department of Modern Foreign Languages, the Bishops Chess Club. Since 1991, I have directed 43 rated events with 138 sections. I am the Trustee for District 4 and Secretary of the Ohio Chess Association, maintaining their web site and membership list. I am one of four elected U. S. Chess Federation delegates representing Ohio.
Ohio Wesleyan University offers a variety of cultural events and I participate in the cultural offerings of nearby Columbus. I especially enjoy the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. I listen to and support public radio station WCBE. I'm a member of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and the Franklin Park Conservatory.
I'm dedicated to making this a better world. Currently, I'm the district representative for the Peace Tax Fund, lobbying for conscientious objector status from paying war-related taxes. This organization is part of the Nonviolence Web.
Thanks for stopping by. Here are some of my recent photos.
