General Statistical Sources

• The CIA World Factbook: includes country profiles and world summary figures.
• Fedstats: excellent starting place for anyone needing US government statistics. It covers over 70 government agencies and is searchable by topic or keywords.
• Statistical Abstract of the United States: contains a collection of statistics on social, economic, and international subjects.
• Uniform Crime Reports: provides access to county level data on crimes and arrests.
• United Nations InfoNation: provides international statistical information, including demographic, economic, social and geographic indicators.
• US Census International Database: searchable database of international statistical information.

Business and Industry Information

• North American Industrial Classification System: will replace the Standard Industrial Classification System.
• Standard Industrial Classification Manual: searchable database from Management and Budget Office.
• 1997 Economic Census: provides a detailed portrait of the Nation's economy from the national to the local level. Economic Census data is also available through American Fact Finder
• County Business Patterns: provides county, state and national level business data for the years 1977-1994.
• CenStats from the Census Bureau: provides access to such databases as Census Tract Street Locator, County Business Patterns, and International Trade Data. Ask a reference librarian for the password.

• Companies Online: produced by Dun & Bradstreet, in collaboration with Lycos, this directory gives information on over 60,000 private and public companies.
• Edgar Database of Corporate Information from The US Security and Exchange Commission: searchable database of public companies.
• Hoovers Online : the ultimate source for company information.

Demographics

• American Fact Finder: contains facts about your community, and population and housing data from the U.S. Census and American Community Survey.
• The Black Population in the United States (1995-1998): a Census Bureau publication that provides detailed statistical data about the black population in the United States. Click here for 1993 and 1994 data.
• We the American People: is a series of Census Bureau publications that provide statisitcs about different groups of population.
