Philanthropy
by Rho chapter
Each fall the sisters of Kappa Kappa Gamma organize a raffle at the Homecoming football game. The event "Balloon Pop" is a fundraiser for Kappa Kidney Kamp. Kappa Kidney Kamp is a week long summer camp for children ages 8 - 18 who suffer from chronic kidney ailments. The funds raised go towards providing medical treatments from doctors, nurses, and medical specialists who staff the camp. Chapters throughout Ohio sponsor Kidney Kamp and provide funds for all campers to enjoy their week at no cost.
The sisters of Rho Chapter have just begun a new spring philanthropy event called Kappa Karaoke to raise money for Kappa's national philanthropy Reading is Fundamental. Reading is Fundamental, or RIF for short, fights illiteracy and encourages reading. To learn more, go to RIF's website. The house also encourages chapter members to participate in community service on an individual basis. Girls who complete outstanding community service are often noted at chapter. Sisters are involved in everything from Habitat to Humanity to PIN (People in Need), from volunteering at the Delaware Humane Society to tutoring both on and off-campus. Ohio Wesleyan's Greeks cooperate with each other in many areas, including community service. Kappa Kappa Gamma actively supports: Delta Zeta's Jello Tug-of-War, Delta Gamma's Anchor Splash, Delta Delta Delta's Pasta for Life, and Kappa Alpha Theta's Mr. OWU. Kappas often participate with fraternities in campus cleanup events and other community service projects. |
