Harvey came to Ohio Wesleyan University in 1969. His principal research interest is in the topic of personality attributions, with a secondary interest in the application of social psychological principles to the understanding of counseling practice. He frequently mentors student research projects, many of which have resulted in student presentations at scientific meetings and publications in professional journals. In 1997, Harvey received the Bishop Herbert Welch Meritorious Teaching Award. This award recognizes distinguished teaching which has made significant contributions to the academic climate of the University. It is widely known to his students that Harvey has an unhealthy attachment to Cleveland professional sports teams and to sweets (especially Nestle Crunch candy bars and oatmeal-raisin cookies). At the personal level, he is married to Evie, who is Dean and Director of The Ohio State University at Mansfield. He is the father of two daughters - Rachel, who received her M.Ed. degree in School Psychology from the University of Cincinnati and is working as a School Psychologist at Lakota East High School (located between Cincinnati and Dayton) and Naomi, who has M.A degrees in Forensic Psychology from Castleton State College in Vermont and in Criminal Justice from the University at Albany. Naomi is currently enrolled in the Ph.D. program in Criminal Justice at the University at Albany while she is working as the Director of Sex Offender Risk Assessment within the Division of Forensic Services of the New York State Office of Mental Health. And, as can be seen in the photos below, Harvey is the very proud grandfather (his license plate reads "Grampa H") of Benjamin Norman Hicks, born on October 9, 2005 to Rachel and Brian.
