Theta Chapter Philanthropy Report

Ken Bagstad '99, Philanthropy Chair

Theta Chapter continued its philanthropic efforts last fall by holding its second annual Beta Theta Pi softball tournament. We have raised several hundred dollars through this event over the last two years, which we have donated to the Delaware chapter of Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Held in late September, teams from Ohio Wesleyan's fraternities and sororities have participated and helped to make this event a success. We hope to expand this event in the future, making it one of the leading greek philanthropies on campus. Although the chapter works hard at making the tournament a success, it is challenging to plan a large event on a small campus. If any alumni have local business connections or are otherwise interested in supporting Theta Chapter's philanthropy, please contact one of the chapter officers.

For the last two years, Theta Betas have also volunteered for Christmas in April. This is a nationwide program in a number of cities that brings together businesses and volunteers to renovate homes for the elderly and disabled. Groups of 5-10 brothers help paint, clean, and assist skilled volunteers for a day in late April at different houses in Columbus. This is also a great event that brings us into close contact with the people we help and with other volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. Through our own philanthropic activities and participation in those of other groups, the brothers of Theta Chapter continue to strive toward helping the larger community and building pride in doing these activities.
