Memorial Ceremony by the Theta Chapter
by Matt Jakubowski '99

On September 28th, the Theta Chapter, as well as the brothers of Phi Delta Theta, honored the memory and ten year anniversary of the tragic deaths of Jeff Eddy, Bill Kroener and Jay Riesz during a noontime service at the memorial in front of University Hall. The three men, who were struck by a drunk driver on a return trip to Ohio Wesleyan from a politics and government seminar at Oberlin College, were remembered by faculty, family, and friends alike. Theta alums Jon Bolek, Roger Ward, and Stuart Feldman relayed Jeff and Bill's contribution to the Theta chapter in brotherhood and friendship. Their words created a living vision of Jeff and Bill for active brothers, and also marked the importance of the memorial.
As they do every year, brothers of the Theta Chapter held a private evening service at the memorial site, and followed the service with a late night painting of "the rock" outside Hayes Hall. In memoriam to Jeff and Bill, two trees were dedicated outside the Chapter Hall during Fallfest Weekend on October 31st in front of alumni, parents and friends of the chapter.
