This fall semester of 1998 finds the Theta chapter
in seemingly a new and welcomed position of security both financially and
in the number of brothers that we have. I feel very fortunate and proud
to be the President of one the strongest and most respected houses on the
hill. Currently, the Theta chapter is housing twenty-seven fine men with
three members returning from the Pledge Class of 1995. It truly gives our
house the best of both worlds with the overflowing zeal of the underclassmen
tempered by the sage-like wisdom and tested experience of our three returning
brothers. Even though these three brothers will be here only for the fall
semester they will undoubtedly leave us with some part of that aged wisdom
that will keep us going strong but, also will keep us living up to the
expectations that our founders layed down before us so many years ago.
Touching on our current standing as I said we do
currently have twenty-seven members living in the house at this time with
three leaving at the end of the semester. Although we are looking to have
a fall pledge class of four which will put us at twenty-eight members for
the spring semester of 1999. This number of fall pledges as far as I know
is truly unheard of for this chapter and for the Greek community on this
campus. The rush for the prospective pledge class of 1999 is also going
extremely well, so far we have a core group of five or seven Freshmen
that have said that Beta is the place for them but as all of you
know only time will tell what our actual numbers will be.
Finally, I would like all of you alumni to think
back to your day of initiation and of the overwhelming sense of pride and
joy it brought you that you were a member of something truly special, you
were now a member of the greatest, grandest fraternity of them all you
were now a Beta. While you reflect back upon that sense of pride and awe
think how you personally, could contribute to some other young man feeling
that same way. I humbly ask that our alumni help out their undergraduate
bretheren in opening the hallowed doors of Beta Theta Pi to those young
men deemed "Worthy of the Highest"
Yours in
